Few dips can rival the rich, creamy, and cheesy perfection of Spinach Artichoke Dip. A timeless classic, this warm and comforting appetizer combines tangy artichokes, velvety cream cheese, gooey mozzarella, and nutty Parmesan into one irresistibly scoopable dish. Whether you’re hosting a cozy dinner, a game-day party, or a casual get-together, this dip is guaranteed to steal the show.

And what better way to take it to the next level than by baking it in a No.4 Field Cast Iron Skillet?

Why Bake Spinach Artichoke Dip in a No.4 Field Cast Iron Skillet?

The No.4 Field Cast Iron Skillet is the perfect size for an appetizer dip, serving 4-6 people without overwhelming your table. At 6 ¾ inches, it creates just the right portion for a small gathering, ensuring your guests get a hot, melty, and satisfying bite every time.

Better yet, if you’re entertaining a larger crowd, you can bake multiple dips at once—a Spinach Artichoke in one skillet, Buffalo Chicken in another, or even a cheesy queso—so you don’t have to commit to just one flavor. Plus, thanks to cast iron’s superior heat retention, your dip will stay warm and gooey long after it comes out of the oven, unlike a regular baking dish that cools too quickly.

The best part? The golden, crispy cheese crust that only cast iron can deliver.

P.S. We've left you a few tips and tricks to make this dip even more delicious if you so choose, just read to the bottom!

The extra heat at the end of the baking process gives this perfect golden crust.

Recipe: Spinach Artichoke Dip

Instructions

How to Make Spinach Artichoke Dip in a No.4 Field Skillet

1.

Preheat oven to 350 °F.

2.

Prepare your skillet: Lightly grease your No.4 Field Cast Iron Skillet to prevent sticking.

3.

Mix the base: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, mayo, sour cream, garlic, Parmesan, mozzarella, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.

4.

Add artichokes and spinach: Stir in the chopped artichokes and drained spinach until evenly combined.

5.

Transfer to the skillet: Spread the mixture evenly into the No.4 Field Cast Iron Skillet and place the skillet on a sheet tray—THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT to catch any bubbling over while baking.

6.

Top with extra cheese: Sprinkle a combo of mozzarella and Parmesan over the top for a crispy, cheesy crust.

7.

Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.

8.

Increase the oven temperature to 425°F and continue baking for another 10 minutes until the top is deeply golden and bubbling.

9.

Serve hot: Pair with crackers, bread, or fresh veggies and enjoy straight from the skillet.

Tips & Variations

  • Make It Extra Cheesy: Add an extra sprinkle of grated Gruyère for a deeper, nuttier flavor.

  • Spicy Kick: Mix in a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce for heat lovers.

  • Lighter Option: Swap the mayo and sour cream for Greek yogurt for a tangy, protein-packed alternative.

  • Make It Ahead: Assemble the dip a few hours before guests arrive and refrigerate until ready to bake—pop it in the oven when the game starts and just add a few extra minutes in the oven.

Seasoning Rating: Best

Rich in fats, this creamy dish is one of the best recipes you can make in your skillet that will support and build up it's seasoning!

Enjoy straight from the pan while still nice and warm, but we recommend cleaning things up right after serving and following the Field Method to keep your cast iron in good shape! Be sure to give it some extra elbow grease with your Chain Mail Scrubber to break up any remaining cheese and prevent further build up.

Seasoning Ratings:

Best—These dishes are the best options for building resilient seasoning, and surefire choices for getting tricky pans back on track.

Better—The best way to keep your skillet in great shape is to cook frequently, and cast iron-friendly dishes like these are your bread and butter.

Safe—These recipes won't strip seasoning away from your pan, but won't really add any, either.

OK—Be sure to clean up promptly. Recipes with this rating might feature acidic ingredients which can affect seasoning if not washed soon after cooking.
