We love to take our Field Skillet into the woods with us and we invite you to do the same!  Cast iron is hands down the best cookware for camping and you can easily use it on:

  • Campsite grills
  • Portable grills
  • Camping stoves
  • Campfires (a grill grate or cook stand can help)

Why Choose A Field Cast Iron Skillet For Camping?

  • They are tough and durable
  • They are easy to pack in and out—Field skillets are a full pound lighter than most other cast iron on the market
  • They have excellent heat retention for even cooking when your heat source is variable
  • They are versatile—you can fry, sear, bake, sauté and even steam (if you have a lid!)
  • They are easy to clean with just some water and a chainmail scrubber

What to cook?

Our kids (and us) are fans of many cast iron classics like like smash burgers, hot dogs, and grilled cheese, but if you want to mix it up, read on for some new ideas!

Plus, we added some helpful tips for prep you can do at home to keep things simple while you're at camp.

1.

Summer Succotash

Dice veggies at home for a simple side dish that comes together in minutes at camp. Pro tip: store the onion and garlic together, the pepper and zucchini together, and the corn and beans together

2.

Cast Iron Griddle Johnny Cakes

Cut down on camp dishes by measuring and mixing dry ingredients at home!

3.

Cast Iron Breakfast Hash

Your onion can get diced at home, but potatoes will start to oxidize if they're cut up too long in advance, so we recommend chopping those at camp.

4.

Double Grilled Skillet Pizza

This requires using a grill with a lid, or alternatively you can use a cast iron lid. Toppings can get prepped in advance, and it's nice to keep things simple by bringing either store bought or homemade dough from home. Pro tip: leftover pizza makes a great lunch or snack the next day!

5.

Field Skillet Blistered Beans

Stem beans at home and they'll be ready to cook when your crew gets hungry.

6.

Cast Iron Bacon

An easy way to be the most popular person at camp! Everyone loves waking up to the smell of bacon, especially in the wilderness.

7.

Cast Iron Trout

Pack your fishing rod to procure a fresh catch. . . or visit your local fishmonger if that's more your speed.

8.

Steak Fajitas

Marinate your steak and chop your veggies at home and you'll have a delicious first night dinner that's ready to cook and throw together quickly when you get to camp.
